Plain Language Projects
Municipal Development Plan
Putting their citizens first, the Town's communications coordinator contacted me to give the Plan and its Quick Reference version a plain language assessment and edit. We also started a plain language style guide for this and future documents. Loved changing 'The Town' to 'We'; decreasing the word count and reading levels; simplifying the government terms. Great project.
Simplified Employee Manual
It takes a brave organization to commit to a plain language edit of their employee policies and procedures manual. Someone - or several people - will have put a lot of effort into it. But, Sutton-Harrison Realty has made the commitment.
My plain language editing challenges are:
3 organization and layout.
Really loving the challenge - and looking forward to the new look SHR Team Guide.
Selkirk College Marketing Team
Rossland Museum Brand marketing advice.
Simon Fraser University online teaching
Basic Copy Editing courses.
The City of Rossland gave me their 2013 Property Tax Notice for a plain language edit. The notice, which appeared in the local paper as an advert, went from a half-page to a quarter-page. From 300 words to 200. Check blog for before and after examples.
